Madonnas

(words by the artist): My paintings are having dialogues with the poetry of Sylvia Plath, Alejandra Pizarnik, Louise Glück, Holly McNish, and the ´Hopscotch’ of Julio Cortazar. Among my Madonnas, there are all those women that I aspire to inspire and all those that have inspired me deeply. All those mothers and daughters that keep on fighting for the right to be heard and seen for what they really are and for something that shouldn´t be defined as right or wrong. For my ex´s ex who let me be a mother to her son and held my hand when I was losing myself. I create my Madonnas from the heart and my only intention is to give them wings to fly.

Cupid Shoots to Kill

“Cupid Shoots to Kill” is a solo exhibition by the artist Alexandra Panagiotidou/LEX PAN. A show devoted to the struggles of dating, of loving and falling in love with someone at this day and age. Lex portrays these emotions through her human- like characters who are trying to survive the beautiful and hard reality of loving. Lex uses vivid colours to capture the exciting aspects of love and rough, sketch-like brushstrokes to capture the anxieties and difficulties people face when forming new attachments. The loneliness, the excitement, the patience, the tears and the disappointment of it all. In a post- pandemic reality, the rules of dating have changed, our time is becoming even more limited, and people are viewed more as commodities rather than individuals, getting to know someone becomes time consuming, and time is precious, how do we choose who to invest in? The important thing to remember is “ the less you give, the less you have to loose”. This show explores all feelings that come with love with a humoristic approach; and the substances we turn to when love does not work out for us, we are all looking to attach ourselves to something to cure us from our loneliness, but sometimes we cling onto the wrong things or the wrong people.

eunoia

Anastasia Rousou’ s work is centered on sculptures and the human heart. Almost all of her paintings are composed by influences from life, and are an attempt to depict the beauty of existing and connecting with one another and how it feels like someone is physically holding your heart when the connection is too powerful while also implementing that existing and being a genuinely person is like your heart blooms. However, another portion of her work are recreations of paintings and sculptures that she explores and reinvents in her own style. Through her paintings she wants people to be able to feel the energy that comes with experiencing life, the flourishing - the downfalls and the power of our existence while simultaneously connecting to them in their own way according to their own life experience and viewpoint. Our energy and presence are contagious and Anastasia creates in hopes to transfer this energy to the viewer.
